You can quickly pick up the basics in our easy to sail accessible dinghies, they are stable and forgiving. The Dock provides a sheltered environment in which to learn. Initially one of our experienced volunteers will accompany you, while you steer and adjust the sails. Soon you will have learnt enough to sail on your own or to crew on the Hawk dayboats.  This gives you a head start if you want to do a formal course; the Surrey Docks Watersports Centre has regular sailing courses leading to RYA qualifications.

For more experienced sailors we have a range of boats to suit all levels of experience and mobility, from pottering to fast racing. We organise racing on most Sundays with coaching for those not sure about the rules. We also have an active junior group.

We can help you gain Safety Boat qualifications and experience of acting as Officer of the Day or Race Officer. Our Hawk dayboats can provide a taste of bigger boat sailing, and more challenging sailing when we take them away from the Dock for weekends.

We welcome new members and volunteers all year around, we run regular induction sessions. We can start with aspiring sailors as young as 6 and there is no upper age limit!
